Title: TEACHER AIDE (MATH)

 

Reports To: Department Chair

 

Duration: 10 Months

 

Purpose Statement

 

The job of Teacher Aide (Math) is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within the classroom or within the Math Resource Center with specific responsibilities of assisting with teacher led classroom discussions and working with individual and/or small groups of students.

 

Essential Functions

 

Assists in teaching students in the Math Resource Center and classrooms (e.g. Algebra, Geometry, etc.) for the purpose of providing extra support and teaching students who are absent.

Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments (e.g. providing writing assistance, reinforce Math lessons, etc.) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.

Communicates with teachers for the purpose of assisting in evaluating student progress.

Follows daily schedule as created by teachers for the purpose of working with all teachers in the department.

Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.

Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.

 

Other Functions

Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.

Maintain a record of students visiting Math Resource (e.g. Excel spreadsheet, etc.) for the purpose of keeping records in order to analyze who uses the lab and daily attendance.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; operating graphing calculators; preparing and maintaining accurate records.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of high school mathematics, preferably algebra, geometry.

 

ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others and to work with a fluid schedule. Problem solving is required to identify issues. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: consistently attending work; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; setting priorities; working as part of a team; and working with constant interruptions.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 85% walking, and 5% standing. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness and in a clean atmosphere. 

 

Education High school diploma or equivalent.

Licenses Educator License with Stipulations – Paraprofessional endorsement or higher

 

FLSA Status Non-Exempt

 

Salary:                                                   24-25 SY
ELS (PARA) and or Substitute License        $18.40       
PEL/ Vocational Aide                                 $19.88                 
Full Time 7.75 hours per day
