Title: TEACHER AIDE (CTE)

 

Reports To: Department Chair

 

Duration: 10 Months

 

Purpose Statement

 

The job of Teacher Aide (CTE) is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within the Career & Technical Education department with specific responsibility for maintaining inventory of equipment; preparing classroom materials, assisting students with curriculum and in labs, and providing support to teachers.

 

Essential Functions

 

Assist students and staff (e.g. set up, supervise, sales, service, clean-up, etc.) for the purpose of having a successful event.

Assists staff and students in a variety of CTE lab classes (e.g. set up, clean up, take down, etc.) for the purpose of supporting classroom objectives.

Assists students during the course of the school day (e.g. answering questions, reading assignments, re-teaching, helping with problems, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring lesson comprehension and reinforcing learning concepts.

Maintains classroom equipment, work area, and manual and electronic files and records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; providing a safe learning environment; and/or meeting mandated requirements.

Orders inventory and record keeping of supplies, materials and food orders for the purpose of availability of materials.

Prepares lab for daily operations, end of class, transitions to next class (e.g. setting up, turning on/off equipment, filling bottles, cleaning laundry, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment/materials for scheduled labs.

Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.

 

Other Functions

Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.

Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. hallways, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practiced with wood and machine shop tools and equipment, automotive lab, screen printing, photography, pre-school and culinary classes; operating standard office equipment including computers and pertinent software applications - Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, AutoDesk Suite; Microsoft Office Suite; preparing and maintaining accurate records; shopping for culinary/foods/supplies; inventory, costing, verification of record keeping.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: health and safety standards; proficient verbal and written communication; good judgment; takes initiative; manages time well.

 

ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others. Problem solving is required to identify issues. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: consistently attending work; adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; working as part of a team; working with frequent interruptions; reporting/communicating with supervisor and teachers; being flexible semester to semester as daily/weekly needs arise.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 33% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a clean atmosphere.

 

Education High school diploma or equivalent.

Licenses Educator License with Stipulations – Paraprofessional endorsement or higher

FLSA Status Non-Exempt

 

Salary:                                                   24-25 SY
ELS (PARA) and or Substitute License        $18.40       
PEL/ Vocational Aide                                 $19.88                 
Full Time 7.75 hours per day

  • Illinois Professional Educator License with a Paraprofessional Endorsement
