Title: TEACHER AIDE (ACHIEVE)
Reports To: Department Chair/Assistant Principal
Duration: 10 Months
Purpose Statement
The job of Teacher Aide (Achieve) is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within the Achieve program with specific responsibility for improving students success in basic academics (reading, language and/or math); assisting students by modeling the skills necessary to perform assignments.
Essential Functions
Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.
Administers tests, homework assignments, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the classroom.
Communicates with supervising instructional staff, and PPS staff for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.
Enforces rules and discipline (e.g. monitoring electronic use, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining order in the classroom and providing an environment that is distraction free.
Guides students in personal interactions and/or specific student issues for the purpose of developing interpersonal skills and problem solving strategies.
Implements under the supervision of assigned teacher, behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
Supervises student performance for the purpose of monitoring progress and completion.
Supports classroom teachers and other school personnel for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of curriculum and teaching methodologies.
Other Functions
Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
Maintains instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files and records (e.g. student files, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; providing a safe learning environment; and/or meeting mandated requirements.
Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.

SKILLS are required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practiced; operating standard office equipment including computers and pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.

Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 39% sitting, 31% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a clean atmosphere.
Education High school diploma or equivalent.
Licenses Educator License with Stipulations – Paraprofessional endorsement or higher
FLSA Status Non-Exempt
Salary: 24-25 SY ELS (PARA) and or Substitute License $18.40 PEL/ Vocational Aide $19.88 Full Time 7.75 hours per day Medical and dental benefits Tuition Reimbursement Contributions to a defined pension plan (IMRF)
One of the following items is required for all teacher aide positions:
- Illinois Professional Educator License with a Paraprofessional Endorsement
- Illinois Professional Educator License
