Title: ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

 

Reports To: PRINCIPAL

 

Duration: 12 Months with work flexibility

 

Purpose Statement

 

The person in this position serves as the Assistant Principal and works with administrators at all levels in developing, implementing, coordinating and evaluating the district programs.

 

The Assistant Principal is responsible for coordinating the educational programs of the school, evaluating staff, and providing information to others; and implementing and maintaining services within established guidelines and standards.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves on the Principal’s Building Leadership Council and advises the Principal on issues related to the educational programs, students, and staff.
  • Hires, evaluates and supervises personnel according to district policies and procedures.
  • Facilitates the development, communication, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the building level educational programs and PLC process.  
  • Serves as the building level Complaint Manager under the direction of the District Non-Discrimination Coordinator. 
  • Implements policies, procedures, and/or processes for the purpose of providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.
  • Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of assisting students in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills.  
  • Manages a variety of school administrative functions (discipline policies, registration, master schedule, staff assignments, student and staff attendance) for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school.
  • Coordinates all school events (open house, curriculum nights, awards ceremonies, commencement exercises, etc.)
  • Represents school within community forums for the purpose of maintaining ongoing community support for educational goals and/or assisting with issues related to the school.
  • Manages the assessment program of the district under the direction of the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.
  • Coordinates building level staff development offerings.
  • Oversees the MTSS in the building making program recommendations when necessary.
  • Stays professionally current in the field of supervision and administration.
  • Keeps current on educational research by reading professional journals.
  • Participates in professional organizations and activities at the local, state and national level.
  • Participates in professional conferences and inservice activities.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

 

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including utilizing pertinent software applications; planning and managing multiple projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and training, developing and supervising staff.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; school code; and federal and state grants management.

ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a wide variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans.  Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is significant. Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives; managing multiple departments; Utilization of significant resources from other work units is routinely required to perform the job's functions. Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 20% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a clean atmosphere.

 

Education Masters degree 

 

Certifications/Licenses Valid, Illinois Professional Educator License with a(n) General 

Administrative Endorsement
