Reports To: Assistant Principal
Purpose Statement
The job of Tutor is done for the purpose/s of providing general support for after school programs; assist students with homework and other academic needs; assist with or lead enrichment activities; serve as an adult role-model for students in an ongoing one-on-one capacity.
Essential Functions
- Assists students during homework help or any other academic support time for the purpose of completing assignments, preparing for tests and improving academic skills.
- Assists assigned administrators in developing program resources for the purpose of fostering resources.
- Enhances students' organizational, problem-solving and communication skills in a safe, educational environment for the purpose of enhancing their ability to establish and maintain meaningful student relationships.
- Maintains accurate records (e.g. tutoring activity plan, files of student work, student attendance, student needs or difficulties, etc.) for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
- Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic lists and records (e.g. daily log of activities, program participation, progress, referrals, etc.) for the purpose of providing required information and/or documentation.
- Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; stages of child development; federal and state education programs.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operates equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; working as part of a team.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; providing information and/or advising others; utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's team; and working with detailed information. There is some opportunity to impact the organization’s services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and in a generally hazard free environment.
